Impact 2050 Tote Bag

These Meeting-in-a-Tote materials are designed to help municipal staff bring community members together to discuss emissions reductions strategies at the local level.

This tote bag contains printable/downloadable materials for municipal staff to use in community meetings, as well as stickers, postcards, and a card deck. The tote serves as a toolkit for guiding meetings and fostering further discussions.

In order to tailor the meetings further consider downloading your town’s MERP to see which strategies have been recommended for your town.

Meeting Facilitation Guide

A guided example of how a meeting can be run to help participants begin a productive dialogue about emissions reduction strategies and the pros and cons of various strategies.

Full List of Recommended Emissions Reduction Strategies

In place of the Emissions Reduction Card deck we have provided a downloadable list of all the strategies. While the cards are very fun they don’t translate well to printing at home or in the office. Many municipalities received physical card decks but this packet can be used interchangeably with them. It is recommended to print several copies of the strategies to allow everyone to browse the full list.

Mythbusters

Mythbusters is a true-or-false game where commonly-held misconceptions are exposed to participants. It encourages thinking about how acting on climate change benefits both the long term and immediate community. Facilitators use it to share information on climate action and spark discussions about the co-benefits of reducing emissions.

Would You Rather

Would You Rather? Is a game designed to force participants to indicate what type of climate action they prefer. Categories are based on sectors determined by the EPA as areas for greatest emissions reductions, and the choices are based on strategies in the PCAP. Participants must indicate their preference for action and record their responses. At the end the group can discuss why they chose the actions and report if they chose one or two sectors more often than others. Municipal staff can use this information to determine what type of action might be popular with community members and potentially invite a large conversation about similar climate actions that might be exciting.

Emissions (Im)Possible

Emissions (Im)Possible is a role playing game designed to encourage participants to consider real life barriers to implementing climate change. Facing issues like budgeting, personal agendas and politics, players must work together to prioritize strategies and begin reducing emissions. This game is well suited for groups excited about acting to reduce emissions locally as it presents opportunities to discuss why various actors take different stances and forces participants to consider alternative perspectives.
